PATRICIA ALGIERS

BIOGRAPHY

Patricia Algiers is an artist and an interior designer. She has assembled and curated art collections for her commercial clients and approaches her own art thinking of it in terms of “the eye of the beholder.” She makes creations that elicit emotional responses from those viewing the pieces. Her work takes its form in framed 2-D pieces and is also digitized in placemaking installations.

Patricia has immersed herself in watercolor, mixed media, and collage in the last two years during which she has taken workshops led by Helen Klebesadel, Stan Kurth, and Jane Barnard.

She is a member of Wisconsin Visual Artists SE Chapter (WVA SE), Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN), Racine Art Museum (RAM), Shorewood Artists Guild (SAG), Milwaukee Art Museum (MAM), and Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA).

Early art education and fond memories included summer courses at a Holy Hill, WI artist’s farm; viewing and learning from her mother’s watercolors; participating in heavy art curriculums in grade school and high school; and taking as many as possible art courses at Mount Mary and University of Wisconsin – Madison while securing her degree in interior design.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Making crazy mixed-up stories with art lets me relive one of my favorite childhood memories – making crazy mixed up stories with words. I do abstract watercolor and mixed media collages --- taking inspiration from people, places, and things. Sometimes the results are fanciful and most always colorful. Working with layers, I like to create pieces whereby the viewer wonders what media was used. I hope that those who view my pieces see things in them that speak to them – and smile.
